3D: Where Is It Going?
Source from: http://www.pcmag.com
Ave you heard about this wacky 3D craze?
It started around 1922 when the first feature-length motion picture to pop out of the screen—Power of Love starring Terry O'Neil and Barbara Bedford—was shown in Los Angeles. It only took another 30 years for Bwana Devil and House of Wax to make stereoscopic 3D a hit again... and three years later, the 3D fad dissipated once more. Of course, 3D never completely left the movies, and it started its resurge in the 1980s with schlocky horror flicks that needed a new way to splatter gore and scare patrons. In the 1990s, theme parks caught on to the joys of 3D (Captain EO may be the apex of Michael Jackson's career).
But 3D never really worked that well. Overall, it's been a bumpy stereoscopic ride for the last 90 years.
That is, until the last decade. Now, we regularly see top grossing movies in 3D—half of the top 10 films of 2010 were 3D, including number one, Toy Story 3, which was nominated for the Best Picture Oscar (and won for Best Animated Feature). Of the top five films of the year, four were CGI animated films (Toy Story 3, Despicable Me, Shrek Forever After, and How to Train Your Dragon), and all rendered instantly as 3D by the studios—because it's a breeze with CGI. Of course, the number one movie of all time, both domestically and worldwide, is 2009's Avatar, a combination of live action, motion-capture, and animation rendered directly to 3D. The top 20 3D movies of all time all came out within the last two years (with two exceptions: 2004's The Polar Express and 2005's Chicken Little). Numbers courtesy of Box Office Mojo.
This proves to the big studios that 3D is a proven money maker. But the investment shouldn't stop at the theater; it needs to go home with you too. And it will, but 3D might not make it there that soon. While the reasons are myriad, they mostly boil down to tech limitations and your own pocketbook.
Learning about 1080p High definition
All other things being equal there has been a big leap in technology from normal TVs to HD TV technology. HD TV is both spectacular and gripping to watch and view content on. There are a number of different types of HDTV that are available on the market. Although screen sizes tend to vary, the real difference of HD TV screen sizes is down to resolution, contrast ratio among other things.
Most people would assume that the HD TV picture is affected by the screen size and resolution. While these two points are important, the real deal on HD TVs coming down to more than screen size and resolution. In fact, some experts agree that contrast and color affect the picture quality more than resolution and screen size. Today’s HD content is broadcast in 1080i or 720p, meaning that though Full HD 1080p is the best standard of HD available, it is not being used for broadcasting because of the bandwidth that is required to broadcast in 1080p.
1080p HD is used instead for on demand content and HD media systems like Blu-ray disc drives, computers and multimedia entertainment devices like the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Though most multimedia systems natively support 720p, content can be up scaled to either 1080p or 1080i via the HDMI ports.
To really enjoy the full benefit of 1080p HD, you will need to get a full HD outputting device such as a Blu-ray player or computer as these two devices natively output in 1080p. 1080p HD TVs will only display content based on the content source because HD TVs rely on fixed pixel technology which limits the number of pixels the HD TV can display. 1080p HD displays content in 1920 x 1080 so the content source would have to be 1920 x 1080p for the 1080p HD resolution to be realized. So although many features on 1080p HD TVs may suggest otherwise, the real HD resolution comes directly from the content source is outputting the resolution directly.
So which HD TVs support the 1080p resolution? Well most standard HDTVs today support the 1080p resolution and since there are various HD TV types available, you can find flat panel HD TVs such as plasma HD, LED and LCD TVs as well as projection HD TVs including rear and front projection HD TVs. Some HD TVs, in particular entry level models are limited to the 720p HD fixed pixel resolution.

Sony brings online storage for saved games to PS3
Source from: http://www.cnet.com
PlayStation 3 owners who are also PlayStation Plus subscribers will be able to save game data in the cloud, Sony announced today.
After updating the PlayStation 3 with firmware version 3.6, which rolls out tomorrow, PlayStation Plus subscribers will find a new backup utility on their console. Users can go to the utility and upload up to 150MB of saved-game data to the cloud. Up to 1,000 data files can be stored on the service. The storage is connected to the user's PlayStation Network account, Sony says.
Sony's new feature goes beyond storage. Users can download their saved game data on any other PlayStation 3 after logging in to their PlayStation Network accounts. In other words, if a gamer is playing a title at home and backs up his saved game to the cloud, he can pick up where he left off at a friend's house. The only requirement is a game disc and the ability for PlayStation Plus subscribers to connect to the Web to access the data.
The addition of cloud storage to Sony's online suite could be a boon for gamers. The feature could make the process of continuing a game away from home much easier. And since it doesn't cost users any more to access it, that feature makes the $49.99 annual fee for the PlayStation Plus service even more valuable.
But as with anything else, there is a limitation to Sony's new feature. According to the company, any single file can only be downloaded once per day. However, users can download multiple files each day without limitation.
A Sony representative confirmed to CNET today that the 24-hour rule applies only to each piece of saved data. Gamers that play a title at home, upload their saved game to the cloud, download it at a friend's house, make more progress, and then upload that saved data to the online storage can then download that file when they get back home to continue from where they left off.
Sony says that its new cloud-storage feature will work with "most" PlayStation 3 games and new games coming out from now on will support online storage, as well.
How the Camcorder Camera Lens Sensor Works
Pocket camcorders use some of the latest technology to produce both HD quality video and still images. As a segment of the broader camera industry, pocket camcorders have become extremely popular. There are many brands and companies that produce pocket camcorders such as big names like Samsung, Kodak and Sony with the Bloggie camera series. There are some factors that divide pocket camcorders from other camcorders. These factors include the type of camera lens sensor that is used. The sensor is important because it determines how many pixels the camera is able to capture per second.
In most pocket camcorders, the camera lens sensor is anywhere between 1/4.5" - 1/2.5", this is somewhere between the size of the camera lens sensors used on mobile phones and some compact cameras. This generally means that pocket camcorders cannot compare to most compact cameras in picture quality. This explains why the average pocket camcorder will only take a 5 MP photo image and 720p HD video. The camera sensors on most camcorders work in many different ways and the focus should not be on just the sensor size, but rather on how the sensor works with other parts of the camera to produce the picture or video.
Some other sensors with adjustable resolution tend to capture more pixels and can then process them to create a more accurate and picture. The main benefit to this is that it will create a more detailed picture that is not smudged or distorted in any way.
Taking into account the importance of the camera lens sensor, it should also be considered that there are other factors such as image stabilizers that help to create a more detailed picture. Some pocket camcorders will come with these image stabilizers and an optical lens (which often have an optical zoom function as well). The result of having these features is a more accurate and steady, focused image. Native HD sensors will utilize an auto focus feature which may be software based and will only render results based on the content being recorded.
Overall the sensor is an important part of any pocket or full featured camcorder. Making sure that the camcorder has the ideal features can result in taking a more accurate shot and recording based on the camera lens sensor, image stabilizer and other essential aspects.

Cheap Boots! Are They Worth It!
Cheap is expensive as the saying goes. Is this an exception to boots? Cheap boots have become the favorite option for many who strive to remain fashionable and look trendy. In many cases cheap has been associated to lower quality. The manufactures of the boots will come up with prices based on factors such as the cost of production. Realistically, high quality material is expensive and thus it would be fools hardy to expect very cheap prices on high quality boots.
Boots come in various types that include Bearpaw boots, Chippewa boots just to mention but a few. Everyone would like to get value for money and thus the question of whether cheap items provide that should come in to play.
In some cases one can land on high quality cheap boots. This sounds unrealistic though in reality it can happen if one takes advantage of the offers and discounts in the market. Discount boots are made available in a bid to move stock and promote the brand name. Landing on a high quality cheap boot is thus possible.
When purchasing boots it is essential to keep certain factors in mind. Price should not be the only determinant as factors such as durability, design, fashion and color among others should come in to play. Cheap prices may seem to be a quick fix and yet in reality the actual needs of durability and reliability are not addressed. Many are the times when cheap boots are purchased vigorously only to disappoint the users after a very short period of time. Some of these kinds of boots have slight manufacturer’s defects which become eminent after prolonged wear.
A critical look at cheap boots would prove that they offer very temporary solutions and are thus not really worth it in the end. One is forced to go back to the shoe shop and look for another pair of boots in a short duration of time. It is makes sense to spend more on something that will provide utmost service. However, when purchasing the boot, check on the quality of the material and sole used. The boot may be cheap but surprisingly the quality may be worth considering.
Comparing Pocket Camcorders and Full Featured Camcorders
Pocket camcorders, such as the Flip Video from Cisco are a popular choice of camcorder in the current market. They are useful for people who have blogs on bloggy networks and want to post pictures quickly. These pocket camcorders are often very compact, usually around the size of a cell phone. They are often referred to as point-and-shoot camcorders because they are extremely easy to use and their video and photos are easy to share on both the internet and on TVs. Pocket camcorders also usually feature very simple controls which contribute to their ease of use.
Pocket camcorders come equipped with an in-built, full-sized USB connector as well as in-built software so that you can effortlessly edit your media and connect your camcorder directly to a computer without any additional accessories. Because many pocket camcorders can also capture full HD video, it is no surprise that they have reached mainstream popularity. They are also inexpensive, with the price of most models usually falling below $200. These benefits have resulted in more users selecting pocket camcorders over traditional camcorders, but it should be considered there are some differences in features between the different camcorder types.
The main difference between both types of camcorders is the camera lens. The lens found in a pocket camcorder has a noticeably lower resolution than the lens found in full featured or traditional camcorders. Also, traditional camcorders will often include features such as optical zoom, image stabilization, auto and manual focus, scene modes and photo enhancement capabilities. In contrast, pocket camcorders may not have all of these features. Although this is slowly changing, with some pocket camcorders including now optical zoom and image stabilization.
The one feature set that gives pocket camcorders the advantage over traditional camcorders is the use of in-built sharing capabilities. Pocket camcorders come with the ability to share video and photos online and onto HDTV’s through their inbuilt software and output ports. These simple features include easy to use tools for linking the edited clips together and sharing the video online or with loved ones. Whilst, the capability to share and playback content is something that traditional camcorders are also able to do, pocket camcorders are able to do this better due to their compact size. For anyone who may want to edit clips easily and upload them to popular sites (most commonly, Facebook and YouTube), there is in-built software that is extremely simple to use, with all people, whether they are the most creative or uninspired, being able to create something special through using the inbuilt software.
Pocket camcorders are also maximising and utilizing the power of the internet by harnessing the potential of increasingly fast internet connections and the rise in popularity of social networks and video sharing sites.

Understanding Camcorder Fundamentals
Camcorders have been around since the beginning of the television age. Many people have access to or own at least one kind of camcorder today. It’s a broad industry that encompasses all aspects of media including photography, video and media production, interactive media and technology as well. Although considered by some as basic, pocket camcorders have proved to be a success and today are used by more people than ever before. Many brands and companies have their own line of camcorders; these include leading electronics brands such as Samsung, Cisco, Kodak and Sony, which has recently brought out the Sony Bloggie series.
Selecting the right recording device is about more than just the list of features the pocket camcorder has, but also about understanding how they work. Generally cameras use the same principle to produce imagery for still and moving images or videos. The main part of any camera is the lens and the view finder. Having these two parts enable the camera to be able to capture and load imagery. Pocket camcorders have relied on compact camera lens technology that was first introduced in compact still and video camcorders. When they came out in 2007, most pocket camcorders were on the same level as mini camcorders and other video cameras, which had video quality on a par with VGA or DVD, 480p. In late 2008, the first pocket camcorders with 720p HD were launched. Although they’re very different from the models available today, pocket camcorders have made some serious improvements to the speed and pace of camera technology development.
In fact, when several major camera manufacturers began to take notice of the pocket camcorder market, many experts assumed the future of other camera types was certainly coming to an end. However, many of the same manufacturers have used their experience and skills with pocket camcorders to bring a whole new level of compactness to mini camcorders. Many of today’s camcorders may contend with pocket camcorders but some things remain certain: pocket camcorders on the whole won’t replace the entire camcorder industry. Instead, they will continue to be catered for a niche market, while continuing to contribute to the future of compact and mini cameras and camcorders.

New Sony camera sensor 5x faster than anything else on the market [17 megapixel video at 120 FPS]
Source from:http://www.intomobile.com/2011/02/28/new-sony-camera-sensor-5x-faster-than-anything-else-on-the-market-17-megapixel-video-at-120-fps/
Sony has just announced their latest creation in the field of camera sensors for mobile phones and this puppy is single handedly redefining what advanced technology is capable of achieving. When it comes to snapping stills, it’ll do 17.7 megapixels worth, which doesn’t really mean much these days since we all know more pixels don’t directly correlate to better image quality. Where the magic comes in however is the sheer bandwidth this thing is capable of pumping out: 34.8 Gbps. That’s almost 4x faster than Intel’s latest Thunderbolt technology that first appeared on the recently announced update to Apple’s MacBook Pro lineup. Photos take up to 75% less time to process and video can be captured at an insane 120 frames per second using the full 17.7 megapixels the sensor offers. Forget HD, that is practically human vision. Now there are some caveats to all this. First, there’s no word on when this sensor will hit the market. Second, there aren’t going to be smartphones that can handle the type of processing power this thing demands. Finally, there are no displays capable of actually rendering 17.7 megapixel video, much less at 120 fps.
Does that make this thing any less cooler? Absolutely not. Like most bleeding edge technology, features of this CMOS image sensor will eventually trickle down into other, cheaper, sensors that will find themselves in a device soon to be in your pocket. Right now the most capable cameraphone on the market is the Nokia N8, and there are rumors that the next generation iPhone, due to be announced this summer, will use a new and improved backside illumination technology from OmniVision to offer image sensitivity levels that until now have only been seen in professional DSLR cameras.
All we know is this, the best camera is the one you always carry with you, and Sony is looking at making the tiny hole in the back of your smartphone the most powerful image capturing device you’ve ever owned.

HDTV and the Digital Video Extreme Format
HD TV is a popular technology trend that offers many benefits to viewers, including high definition picture quality, the ability to support and display clearer, more detailed content as well as CD-quality sound. These benefits are often found in most movie theatres, but provide consumers with the same experience from the comfort of their own sofa at home. The age of digital TV has also introduced new ways of sharing content and video without the need for physical optical media such as discs or tapes. There are a number of video formats and codecs available today that support and compress HD video. These popular formats have been adopted by many HDTV manufacturers, that include special interactive features like streaming video, digital content playback as well as internet video sharing - a phenomena that continues to grow and grow. Some popular video formats supported on most HDTVs include Microsoft’s WM9, the H.264/MP4 Video format, and the HDV recording format. But the most popular of the digital HD formats is the established DiVXone.
DiVX Video Format
DiVX stands for Digital Video Extreme. This video format is one of the longest standing and most popular digital video sharing platforms available today. As it uses sophisticated video compression methods, DVD quality video is often able to be shrunk into less than one gigabyte without losing its quality. For some time, DiVX was considered as the video version of the MP3, because the format did not have built-in digital rights management, known as DRM. The DiVX format was also used to distribute video and content on peer-to-peer sharing sites, such as Pirate Bay, since it wasn’t equipped with DRM. These, among other reasons, are why the format is not as widely used for digital video distribution.
The preferred format
Today, the H.264 format has become the most widespread video format used on the internet by many providers and video sharing sites. The video format is a competing force to DiVX, due to the technology developed by Apple that natively supports the format.
Although H.264 is the preferred digital content format that is used by most providers, most HDTV sets come with DiVX support built-in because of the popularity of the video format. H.264 video is supported on most media systems and can be played back onto a HDTV.

Google update triggered Gmail loss
Source from:http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/2029569/google-update-triggered-gmail-loss
SEARCH ENGINE OUTFIT Google has confirmed that a storage software update was responsible for causing some Gmail users to lose access to their e-mail.
Some Gmail users complained of losing e-mails, contacts, and folders. Google claimed that 0.29 per cent of the user base was affected by the problem but has since revised that figure to less than 0.02 per cent, or about 40,000 of the service's 200 million accounts.
Ben Treynor, Google VP of engineering and site reliability czar, said sorry for the mess and said he expects to have the lost data restored soon. He said that the data was not completely lost and Google had restored most of it already.
Writing in Google's Gmail blog, Treynor said that it was caused by a storage software update that introduced an unexpected bug.
"When we discovered the problem, we immediately stopped the deployment of the new software and reverted to the old version," he said.
Users might be wondering how safe all this cloud computing lark really is if, as Google promises, all the data was backed up in different locations with the keys owned by people who have never met each other.
Treynor said this is because in some rare instances software bugs can affect several copies of the data.
"Some copies of mail were deleted, and we've been hard at work over the last 30 hours getting it back for the people affected by this issue," he said.
